Most people want to have privacy. Most of us do not like strangers knowing all about us.
Yet in 2012 it seems like the only way to be private is never to leave the house.
In the UK there are around 2 million close-circuit TV cameras - one for every 32 people:
www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/mar/02/cctv-cameras-watching-surveillance. They can even read your text messages:
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2140360/Watch-type-Surveillance-cameras-strong-read-text-messages.. Newspapers and magazines publish endless of images of people, almost always without permission.
Anyone can post an image or other information - true or false - of anyone else anonymously on You Tube, Facebook and many other sites - potentially ruining lives and careers. Even if the victim fights back the damage is almost always already done.
Google is mapping the world, and taking our pictures at the same time - it blurs images usually, but people IN places are often recognisable.
Has all this gone too far or is it a good thing that we know very little is secret? Will it help us behave better knowing we are likely being watched or is all this a serious invasion of our freedom?
What do you think? (This is a Think Screen case so the results should really help us understand each other better.)
Do you agree or disagree?
It is proposed that everyone should be free to publish images of anyone else without any penalty
