Brittany Spears has been in the headlines recently as it was found that she had forgotten to lip sync during a section of a recent performance thus revealing the reality of what a Brittany Spears 'live' show really is.
While some critics have been very scathing of this behaviour others see it as an acceptable practice. In fact some claim that the energetic dance performances by many pop stars means that it would be near impossible to also sing, especially to sustain singing over the length of a 90 minute show.

Certainly when people talk of attending a concert, most will say they are going to 'see' a performer, rather going to 'listen'.
There is also an assumption that pop stars will sound like their recorded music. Those who are disappointed often claim it is because the performer did not sound like they usually do.
