A female Muslim Service User is being admitted as a voluntary patient to a Mental Health inpatient ward, which you manage. The Service User and her family report previous bad experience of services at your hospital and are quite concerned about the admission.
They ask to assert their right to having their beliefs and preferences taken into account during admission. As part of this they state that they do not wish to receive any of their care from staff members who are black.
They make it clear that they will not be happy to receive services if their beliefs and preferences are not met, and that this will be detrimental to the well-being of the Muslim female in question.
You are in charge of the health team in this case. It is up to you to decide what to do for the best. What do you decide?
