Australian gold-medal olympian, Ian Thorpe, has released his gay sexuality status to the public in an interview with Sir Michael Parkinson. Over the past years, there had been much speculation to whether Thorpe was straight or gay. We thought we had been told the truth when Ian Thorpe released his autobiography in 2012 stating that he was straight, but we were wrong.
The first question is, how will the public react? Will they be shocked or inspired by his courage? Will other gay couples now come out about their sexuality to the public? The second question is, was it right of him to lie about his sexuality to the public the first time? Or have the media gone overboard in finding out his personal details?
