A company called Sierra Sciences has investment of $33 million to work out a way to extend human life well beyond the present limit of 125 years.
They have identified an enzyme (something that can make things happen in human cells) that can lengthen a microscopic piece of DNA called a 'telomere'. Every time a human cell divides the telomere in it shortens, but the enzyme may be able to stop this happening. The scientists think that this shortening of the telomere causes ageing and that if they can find a way to stop it they may be able to prevent ageing. They even think they may be able to make old people younger.
