DO POLITICIANS SET A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE?
In 2007 the Labor Party was elected as the government of Australia. The party leader, Kevin Rudd, became Prime Minister.

On 24th June 2010 Julia Gillard challenged for the leadership of the Labor Party and defeated Kevin Rudd, becoming Prime Minister.

The electorate (voters) who voted for Labor in 2007 did not vote for Gillard to be PM, but she became PM anyway as the leadership changed. Gillard won the election in 2010 (sort of). She formed a minority government with the support of independent MPs.

On June 26th 2013 the reverse happened. Rudd challenged Gillard and won, becoming Prime Minister. Once again, the people who voted for Labor in 2010 did not vote for Rudd as PM, but he is now Prime Minister.

All this happens because adult politicians fight and scheme and are aggressive toward each other. The often say abusive and offensive things about each other. On the other hand, some politicians work hard.

Do you think politicians set a good example to young people?

Is it right that Kevin Rudd is Prime Minister of Australia, even though no member of the public has voted for this?
Do you think it is possible for 150 people to represent the views of over 22 million Australians?
Do you think the internet could be used so that everyone could have more of a say about political decisions?
